Resumen

El objetivo de este artículo consiste en estimar la brecha de género en el puntaje obtenido en los exámenes de conocimientos aplicados a niños de tercer grado de primaria al tercer año de bachillerato del sistema educativo mexicano, así como explorar los efectos de las características observables sobre la diferencia en esos puntajes. Dado que el análisis es realizado en la media, y en toda la distribución de los puntajes, hacemos uso del método de regresión propuesto en Firpo, Fortin y Lemieux (2009) y Firpo, Fortin y Lemieux (2011). Los resultados indican que las niñas obtienen mejores puntajes que los niños en español, en primaria y secundaria. Mientras que los niños son mejores que las niñas en matemáticas en la parte alta de la distribución de puntajes en primaria, secundaria y en toda la distribución en el nivel medio superior, siendo esta brecha observada debido al efecto de los retornos.
